Kalpana Ummat #rolestroll_12

"जब अमृता प्रीतम ने अपनी ऑटोबायोग्राफी लिखनी चाही तो किसी ने उनसे पूछा कि तुम्हारी ज़िन्दगी में लिखने लायक हैं ही क्या ;ये सब तो एक रसीदी टिकट के पीछे भी लिखा जा सकता हैं "
Movie - Soni

Kalpana is an IPS Officer who is assumed to have a very soft and kind nature in contrast to what her job demands. She is very concerned for her junior employee Soni who is a very hot headed and rebellious sub inspector. There is a unique camaraderie between showing the beautiful and lesser seen ensemble performance of woman standing up for woman. She has an engaging empathy for Soni and she continuously guides, corrects and helps her. Soni had a failed marriage and toxic relationship that makes her now intolerant to any kind of lewd behavior from any man and so has to meet repercussions of her aggressive behavior. Even after being at par with her husband professionally Kalpana still feels the subjugation and the constant bickering even if she stands out for what is right due to her gender. The issues raised in the films are not made up larger than life and astutely refrained from being overdramatic. They are real and niche, be it the inequality, corruption, eveteasing, domestic violence, menstrual jokes, constant pressure to be a mother no matter what are your aspirations in life despite being in such strong and independent position. Kalpana slowly starts noticing the unjust differences that she experiences in her own home which is subtle but stark. She is a person who always stayed away from being aggressive and loud about the gender differences and problems for obvious reasons, one being feminism in today's world is a highly misunderstood and misquoted word. But as she observes the misogyny and disdainful behavior she strives to find her own individuality and gets innerved to stand out firmly, be a little more stronger,  be a little more brave and do what she believes in.
